[00:00:00] The question I get the most in my comments, my dms and my emails, is how do I know when to baby dance? If you've been on a Trying to Conceive journey, you've probably heard about the Fertile Window. The fertile window is when you're most fertile and most likely to get pregnant. Today we're gonna talk about how to pinpoint it, understand it, and nail it so you can bring your baby home.
Let's go. Hi, I'm Sophie Byfield and when I decided I was ready to be a mama, I thought it would be so easy. Get off birth control. Baby dance, like no one's watching. And poof, I was pregnant. But like many of you, that wasn't my story. After months of negative tests, endless treatments, and more supplements than you can count, I realized that getting pregnant isn't about fixing one piece of your fertility puzzle.
It's about bringing your whole body. Back into balance so it feels safe enough to conceive. [00:01:00] And this is where we focus on what really matters. Healing your whole body so that you can see those two pink lines. Welcome to The Heel to Conceive podcast. I got a funny story for you today. So when I first started my trying to conceive journey.
I knew nothing. I honestly believed you got off birth control. You baby danced and you got pregnant. I remember being like, I can baby dance at any time in my cycle and I would get pregnant. Can you tell me if that was something that you thought when you first started trying to conceive? Well, that's not true, and I learned that the hard way.
So today's episode, we are gonna be diving into the fertile window. The fertile window is a five to six day span within your menstrual cycle when your body is the most fertile, the most likely to conceive, [00:02:00] see your menstrual cycle, the average is about 28 days. There's some that are longer and there's some that are shorter, and in that time period you have a follicular phase and a literal phase.
And the follicular phase is kind of when your egg is growing. The literal phase is all about implantation. The turning point in a normal healthy menstrual cycle is halfway, so they say about day 13 to 14. But if you're anything like me or anything like many of my clients, that is not always when you ovulate.
When you first start trying to conceive, a lot of us just use our period tracking apps, and we follow what the app said. However, that is not the most accurate way to pinpoint your fertile window. You see those apps are based on an algorithm and they adjust as you go, but it's not an indicator of what your hormones are.
Let's look at one of my clients, Nikki. Nikki was following the [00:03:00] app, which said she ovulated on day 13 and 14 of her cycle, and she baby danced in that window because of those dates. However, once we started tracking L-H-B-B-T and cervical mucus, we could actually confirm that Nikki actually ovulated on day 16 and day 17 of her cycle, which means her fertile window was completely off.
She had already finished baby dancing by the time her egg actually dropped, therefore delaying her chances on bringing her baby home. You see, pinpointing that fertile window is everything to your chances if you were trying to conceive naturally. So what do we do? Where do we go from here? When we look at all the pieces in your trying to conceive journey, your fertile window is an important one.
Understanding and mastering your ovulation is such an important part to bringing your baby home. If you're ovulating, [00:04:00] you have a fertile window. The sperm can survive in the uterus for up to five days and the egg can survive for up to 24 hours the day before Ovulation and ovulation give you the highest chances of conception.
So you wanna look at understanding your lh, your BBT, and your cervical mucus to be able to pinpoint your ovulation, and this is where we come into the good, better, best method. When you're trying to pinpoint your fertile window and really understanding when your egg is gonna drop, we need to move from good, which is just understanding the calendar into a better method.
And the better method is tracking your cycle. So this is when we use O pks to track your lh. We use BBT to confirm you ovulated and we use cervical mucus to confirm the doorway is open. You see this egg only lasts inside the uterus for 24 hours, but sperm can live up to five days. So we wanna make sure that we are [00:05:00] nailing the timing to increase our chances to make sure that the egg can meet the sperm, or the sperm can meet the egg so we can bring our baby home.
Now you may see something like, Sophie, I've been tracking for months, I've been doing all the things. I'm taking my temperature, I'm peeing on sticks. This is still not working. I understand and I got you. This is when you need to either move into the better method or possibly look at the data and the nuances to make some changes.
So what's the better method? The better method is when you start moving into fertility tech like ura needle your mirror, where we're looking at the metabolites from the hormones that are happening in your body to really pinpoint and see the trends in your cycle to pinpoint your ovulation window. But I'm getting way ahead of myself.
Let's bring it all back so the egg is dropped about the midway point in your cycle, and it can live inside your uterus for about [00:06:00] 24 hours. When you baby dance, the sperm can live inside the uterus for up to five days. So your fertile window are five to six days of when that egg is about to drop, and that sperm can be in the uterus to meet it.
The fastest way to bring your baby home is to master your ovulation and understand what is going on with your body. What works for your sister, your auntie, your friend, may not work for you, and that is why we go back to the basics and we start by tracking our LH RBBT in our cervical mucus.
