[00:00:00] Sis, did you know that changing your diet can have a huge impact on your reproductive system and your ability to conceive? Thinking about eating more leafy greens, a little bit of more healthy fat, the right lean protein for you can all make a significant difference and change in bringing your baby home.
Well, since today I got you and in our healing our body from the Inside Out series, we are touching on nutrition for fertility. Hi, I'm Sophie Byfield and when I decided I was ready to be a mama, I thought it would be so easy. Get off birth control. Baby dance, like no one's watching. And poof, I was pregnant.
But like many of you, that wasn't my story. After months of negative tests, endless treatments, and more supplements than you can count, I realized that getting pregnant isn't about fixing one piece of your fertility puzzle. It's about bringing your whole body. [00:01:00] Back into balance so it feels safe enough to conceive.
And this is where we focus on what really matters. Healing your whole body so that you can see those two pink lines. Welcome to The Heel to Conceive podcast. Today is one of my favorite days. It's all about powering up your nutrition. So that you can build the healthiest body to conceive. It's really about healing the body from the inside out.
What you put in your body directly affects your hormones, your egg quality, your whole entire reproductive health. When you're eating junk, high processed foods and sugary foods, it can block your blessing, decrease your egg quality, and hold you back from bringing your baby home. Food is medicine, and when we pull on the right strings and we put the right things into our body, we can see major changes in our ability to see.
So why does [00:02:00] fertility nutrition matter? Well, sis, your body is a well-oiled machine and the nutrients you put into your body is like it's fuel to keep it going. When you're putting the wrong nutrients in, you can actually clog the system down, slowing it down, making it harder, like putting in lots of dairy for some people will actually block the sperms ability to reach the egg.
And let's not forget about water. Water is liquid gold when it comes to bringing the nutrients to your cells, your reproductive health, and your eggs. How do you expect to improve your egg quality if you're not nourishing your body with water and electrolytes to keep the system flowing? One of the benefits to eating fertility friendly foods is balancing your hormones.
The right foods can take you out of irregular cycles. It can actually jumpstart your ovulation and create the healthiest wound possible [00:03:00] for implantation. Certain foods like leafy greens, berries, nuts, are full with antioxidants and actually help to improve your egg quality. Your body is always breaking down self, and that causes free radicals to be flowing around in your bloodstream.
These free radicals damage. Damage the eggs. By having a diet full of rich antioxidants foods, you have to protect the egg from that damage. And some people forget that water plays a huge, huge role in thickening your lining. You wanna be getting three to four liters a day or up to a gallon of water and electrolytes to help produce a thick, juicy lining for implantation.
Yeah. Overall, when you are giving the body the right nutrients, the whole entire reproductive system functions so much better, therefore, increasing your chances. And isn't this all about bringing that baby [00:04:00] home Because I know it is for me. And you have the power by filling your body with the right nutrients and getting enough.
Water. One of the biggest things I've noticed with people when I've been working with them and I say, let's change your diet. Let's make it a little bit more fertility friendly. They say things like, well, can't I get it from supplements? Aren't supplements better cysts? Supplements are not better than whole.
Foods, supplements are a sprinkle add a little bit more, but we wanna be fueling our body with the best foods we can possible. So start with nutrition and then add a sprinkle of supplements to boost you. I'm gonna be honest, getting rid of your processed foods and your high sugar foods can be overwhelming and daunting.
Hey sis, I got it. Sometimes you just wanna grab and go. But we're doing everything we can to bring our baby home. And we know that these foods cause inflammation in our body, which can block our blessing, which can make it [00:05:00] 10 times harder for us to get pregnant. And if you don't get the nutrients that you need, since your cycles can become irregular, making it harder for you to pinpoint ovulation, making you wonder if your egg even dropped, making it impossible to actually get pregnant.
I know that giving up processed foods can be hard. Shoot, I wanna run downstairs and grab a bagel, but in all honesty, processed high sugar foods add inflammation to the body, making it harder to get pregnant. So if my goal is to bring my baby home, why am I making it harder for myself? And I am not saying you have to give these up forever or, um, never ever, ever, ever use them again.
I'm just saying if you're using them 90% of the time, maybe it's time to shift to 50 to 60% of the time and slowly, slowly, slowly, [00:06:00] slowly come on down to 10. So what do you do? How do you implement a fertility friendly diet? When I use the word diet, I don't mean diet in terms of losing weight. I am talking about diet in terms of the nutritional things that you put into your mouth.
This word could be used in another context as in lifestyle. So there's three main nutritional lifestyles that you can follow to build the healthiest and optimal body. One is the Mediterranean Diet two is like a plant-based fertility friendly diet, and number three is a low carb, closer to keto type diet.
Each of these diet types have different benefits and will work for different people. So let's dive in. The Mediterranean diet is full of fish, vegetables, healthy fats. It's overall one of the most recommended diets for fertility. The Mediterranean diet is packed with antioxidants, which we learned earlier is very, very helpful for egg quality [00:07:00] and hormone balance.
And the healthy fats you find in the Mediterranean diets help with hormone balance and production, which is key for your fertility. Number two is a plant-based or lean protein, fertility friendly diet. Okay. In this type of diet you are getting lean protein, lots and lots of vegetables, so you lead with vegetables in this diet with a small bit of protein and a small bit of healthy fats.
This diet can help to reduce inflammation, which is the name of the game, and also help with insulin specific. And some people, especially people who suffer from PCOS, need help with that particular component, added bonus. This diet you get a lot more fiber in, and that is how excess hormones like estrogen are removed from the body and the system.
And number three, a low carb, moderate carb or keto type diet. Now this diet is excellent for people with PCOS or insulin [00:08:00] resistance, and what it does is really focus on maintaining that healthy, strong blood sugar to help you conceive with people who have POS, who I like to call a late comer whose period can take forever to come.
Balancing your blood sugars can be a game changer for you. You're focusing on whole food, vegetable type carbs, maybe moderate whole grains as well, things that aren't gonna spike your blood sugar. A low carb diet can really help to regulate insulin and blood sugar levels, making it easier for you to consider.
Each of these diets offer their own benefits, but you really have to look at what is going on in your life, what is going on with your body, and pick the one that will work for you. Now, you may try the Mediterranean and it doesn't work for your lifestyle, or you start feeling bloated or gaining weight.
So you move to a low carb. Again, the name of the game is figuring out what works for you and your body. If you're feeling lost with your fertility, nutrition, you don't know where to.
